The Answer of Water

Started by ChangeForge | Ken Stewart · 11 months ago

We always hear the terms “work-life balance” and “quality time”… Is there such a thing as balancing work, as if it wasn’t part of our life? Is the time we spend doing ‘one thing’ somehow less valuable than other times spent doing ’something else’ ?SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "The Answer of ... Continue reading »

  • There is a movie, and I am sure there are more then one, that uses "Water is the Essence of Life" - in some sort of way...

And as a Metaphor for balance - there is no better.
  • I love the paradox of this. We try to balance something (our life) that exists in an imbalance world. Heh heh.
I love the analogy of water as well. Coming from a Pisces I try to be as mutable as water, but succumbing to the laws of Chaos Theory when speaking of water's predictability and reliability can be tough.
Great post, and as always great thoughts.
  • Kia ora Ken!

Your water analogy is a fine one. Like most material analogies for complex ideas, it has limitations. This is not necessarily a bad thing, for the analogy has to be simpler than the phenomenon so that it can be brought readily to mind and the usefulness of it is found.

Balance as a life principle so often is thought of in the ultra-simplistic terms that you correctly summarised as such - that of a static balance, the apothecary's apparatus with brass weights in one pan and the substance to be weighed in the other.

Life balance is not just more complicated than that analogy, for the apothecary's apparatus is static when balance is reached. Static balance in life spells death. Life balance is dynamic. When dynamic life balance is achieved things are still happening, for that balance exists within a living system.

  • kallan, very well said indeed. I indeed respect and admire your seemingly well-rounded grasp of things. I did indeed attempt to capture a complex idea with something somewhat simple, and in so doing had hoped to help others, and myself, achieve a little insight.

I do indeed agree with you on all points... very well said.
