Change is not easy to implement in an organization. People are resistant to change. Where does change start?SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "It starts at the top (by Corey Smith)", url: "http://www.changeforge.com/2008/05/03/it-starts-at-the-top-by-corey-smith/" }); ... Continue reading »

  • IT departments must be responsible
  • I think the trick is that any change has to make life easier, not more complicated.

ROI, long term goals, etc etc are good to justify behavior, but the drive to easy is what changes behavior. If it doesn't make it easier, no one is going to make it happen. Even if it has the total support of everybody at the top. Big bright ideas by the folks at the top have a long distinguished record of crashing and burning.
  • Ah, crusade du jour, right Michael? ;-) I have been with a few companies that go down this road, and you are right it tends to crash and burn. I think the idea here is to elicit ground level intel, while ensuring the push comes from the top. I have a saying, "Management goals that start in the clouds often don't stand the scrutiny of the sun."
  • Actually I finally got to the RSS feed on your posts. Had some time and added my two cents to some of the great posts.

As for crusades, the only one that is not du jour is the crusade to fix bottom of the pyramid high schools with print + web.

I moved the feed up to the top of Google reader, so I'll be back :)
  • I'm glad I could make a big enough splash with you to get to the "top of the heap", Michael!
