ChangeForge: I Get Paid To Know What I’m Not… What Do You Get Paid For?

Everything is back up and running. Thanks.

I get paid to know a little about too much, but also to occasionally pull an old skill out of my magic bag of tricks that can be used in a new an interesting fashion. The sarcasm, however, is always an unpaid perk ;-)

Bordering on Socrates-like thinking. I know I know nothing... or at least know what I DON'T know.
    Great thoughts.

Ken, although I came to technology rather late in life, I embraced it wholeheartedly and developed a "rapport" with technology quickly. And I became "the bridge" between the pre-internet business and the transition to internet. I can feel where you are coming from. As for the question of knowing a lot about a little or a little about a lot, it depends on the goal. For most career phases, a lot about a little makes more money. (I have often hired contractors who were paid much more than me) Only at the very top level does it turn around and frankly when that happens it generally means that person knows A LOT about A LOT. Liked your post and will follow you on twitter to keep up!

Victorseo, wow! What a time to be in business - amidst all that change. I rely heavily on contractors, and found that these highly skilled individuals can indeed command more salary than myself.

What is interesting is that there are a lot of individuals who don't get paid b/c they either know a little about a little or they do not position themselves properly as authorities.

Those few who can command a high dollar, who know a lot about a little, are usefully highly motivated and always seeking what is next on the horizon. I very rarely find an individual who is highly respected and demanded that is not in this category. In those instances - I might have to agree that they end up knowing a lot about a lot!

Look forward to connecting with you on Twitter - and over on LouisGray.com as well. If you have a blog link, shoot it over. Your thoughts here and on LG's blog have honestly challenged me, and I do relish engaging conversation.
